This is a full-day course – 10:00 am to 4:00 pm;
In brief, the aim of this course is for delegates to have an understanding of –
- the definition of temporary accommodation excluded from eligibility to claim universal credit housing element;
- definition of temporary accommodation subject to the subsidy cap;
- temporary accommodation not subject to the subsidy cap;
- when exempt accommodation status takes precedence;
- resolving the conflict between other types of specified accommodation and temporary accommodation;
- how to decide whether the type of temporary accommodation is or is not subject to the subsidy cap, including accommodation leased for 10+ years;
- what the subsidy cap is and how it is calculated;
- how to calculate the subsidy cap where placed as homeless for less than a week in more than one dwelling in the same week;
- tenancy types;
This course includes workshops to aid understanding.
This course is suitable for those with no or limited knowledge of temporary accommodation, as well as those looking to improve their knowledge or looking for a refresh of their knowledge. This includes assessors / senior assessors / Team Leaders / Benefit Managers. It is also suitable for those with budget responsibilities and those working in the homelessness placement teams. At least a basic knowledge of Housing Benefit or Subsidy is advised but not essential.
